According to the results of the Minimum Wage Review Committee meeting convened by Taiwan’s Ministry of Labor on September 26, 2025, the monthly minimum wage in Taiwan will be raised to NT$29,500 starting January 1, 2026, an increase of NT$910, or 3.18%. At the same time, the hourly minimum wage will be increased from NT$190 to NT$196.

The adjustment proposal will be submitted to the Executive Yuan for approval. If approved, it will mark the tenth consecutive minimum wage increase since 2017. Statistics indicate that this raise will benefit approximately 2.47 million workers, including about 2.08 million local workers and around 390,000 foreign workers.

During the meeting, both employer and employee representatives agreed that the minimum wage should be adjusted with reference to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) annual growth rate of 1.76% to maintain workers’ real purchasing power. However, regarding the sharing of economic growth, employer representatives argued that the adjustment should not be too large due to international factors such as exchange rates and U.S. reciprocal tariffs. Employee representatives, on the other hand, emphasized that rising prices disproportionately affect low-income groups, and that the government has already introduced support measures to help industries impacted in the short term. Therefore, these temporary challenges should not affect the minimum wage adjustment. After several rounds of negotiation between labor and employer representatives, and following the Minister of Labor’s mediation after hearing all sides, the final adjustment rate was agreed upon.

The Ministry of Labor stressed that the implementation of the Minimum Wage Act is an important basis for safeguarding workers’ rights and that employers are obligated to comply. In addition, for industries affected by international circumstances, the Ministry of Labor plans to work with the Ministry of Economic Affairs to develop supporting measures to protect workers while promoting industrial development.
