Experience

Ms. Sophia Lelong has over 20 years of experience practicing law, specializing in labor law, Japanese corporate investment in Taiwan, real estate development, banking and financing, M&A, foreign investment, and capital markets. Ms. Lelong has held various prestigious positions including Director and Executive Supervisor of the Taipei Bar Association, Independent Director of Jih Sun Financial Holding Co., Ltd., member of the Taipei City Land Valuation and Standard Land Valuation Discussion Committee, member of the Taipei City Floor Area Ratio Payment Fund Management Committee, lecturer at the Labor Law Seminar of the Lawyers’ Continuing Education Institute, member of the Ministry of Labor’s Labor Dispute Law and Cost of Living Review Panel, as well as Judge Evaluation Committee Member and Judge Selection Committee Member of the Judicial Yuan. Ms. Lelong has received recognition from internationally renowned legal professional ranking institutions, including being selected as a Leading Lawyer and Distinguished Practitioner in dispute resolution by Asialaw, and a Leading Lawyer in labor law by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific. Since 2019, Ms. Lelong has been listed as one of Taiwan’s Top 100 lawyers by Asia Business Law Journal. Ms. Lelong has extensive academic background and practical experience in labor cases. She obtained a Master’s degree in labor law from the University of Tokyo, Japan. Ms. Lelong has served as a legal consultant for numerous domestic and international corporations, offering legal advice on human resources management. Her practical experience encompasses representing prominent local and foreign enterprises in labor disputes, handling severances, dismissals (including mass redundancy) and collective bargaining. Furthermore, she has assisted clients in drafting and reviewing labor contracts, work rules, personnel regulations, and dealing with labor law issues such as wages, working hours, non-compete agreements, and labor matters related to corporate mergers and acquisitions, and is highly trusted by clients.

Fluent in English and Japanese, Ms. Lelong possesses a deep understanding of the corporate cultures of foreign enterprises. She advises clients on various commercial negotiations, including M&A, investment, joint ventures, and legal matters. She has been involved in large-scale housing and commercial facilities development, renewable energy projects, application of financial industry licenses, establishment of branches, and public tender offers for listed Taiwanese companies, earning high trust and recognition from foreign clients.

Her expertise extends to construction law and various types of dispute resolution, where she has assisted foreign companies in resolving performance disputes related to investment in Taiwan, including large-scale public construction projects, real estate development, and energy development, among others. In addition, Ms. Lelong’s excellent communication skills enable her to help clients resolve disputes through negotiation before entering into averting formal legal proceedings, achieving remarkable results.
